Dorothy L. McDonald, 94, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 at her residence in Friendship Village, Bloomington, Minnesota due to prolonged illness. A memorial service were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 6, in the Friendship Hall of Friendship Village, Bloomington, Minnesota followed by lunch. A private interment will be at Christ Presbyterian memorial garden following the funeral.
Born Dorothy L. Hanson, August 6, 1918 in Story City, IA where she resided on her family’s farm until college. Dorothy graduated from the University of Northern Iowa Teachers College. She taught elementary school in Pomeroy, Iowa until she married Norman Dahlquist. They raised their children in Fort Dodge, Iowa and later, divorced in 1976. She was remarried to Charles McDonald in 1989 and the couple resided in Arthur, Illinois (summer) and Sun Lakes, Arizona (winter). Dorothy was a very strong Christian all of her life. She and Charles enjoyed their church life both in Arthur and Sun Lakes. She was an accomplished bridge-player, played piano by ear, enjoyed entertaining and cooking, and loved to bring others joy and smiles to their faces.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Barb Dahlquist of Minneapolis, Deb (Dennis) Loots of Bloomington, Minnesota and Dick (Diana) Dahlquist of Mount Horeb, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Darren (Amanda) Loots, Brian (Moriah) Loots, Erika (Chris) Haglund, Ellie Dahlquist and Evan Dahlquist; six great-grandchildren, Hailey and Elin, Maleah and Kellan, and Leyton and Cora; and sister, Betty Runft of Mequon, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Dahlquist; her husband, Charles McDonald; and her parents, Andrew and Emma Hanson.
