Michael J. Rader, 64, of Story City, Iowa passed away on May 8, 2013 at the Israel Family Hospice House, in Ames, Iowa. Visitation was held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City. Following the visitation at 11:00 a.m., there was a "A Time of Sharing". Burial will be at a later date.

Michael was born on December 17, 1948 in Grand Island, Nebraska to parents Marvin and Grace (Panowicz) Rader. He graduated from Ames High School in 1967. He was in the first graduating class in diesel mechanics at DMACC. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Kay Penny on August 17, 1968. Michael worked for Strohman Trucking, Ames Concrete, Conley Trucking, and Munsen Chevrolet as a service manager. He opened his own business, Mike’s Auto and Truck Repair in Ellsworth. Mike and Marilyn bought an acreage in April 1975 where they raised their family.

Mike was very supportive to local community and civic organizations. He was one of the original S.O.T.T. members. He loved camping with his grandchildren, family and friends.

Michael is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Story City; a son, Dan (Malisa) Rader of Jewell; and a daughter, Teresa Rader of Ellsworth; four grandchildren: James Dean (JD), Mary Michala Grace, Ellizabeth Grace and Karly Ann; his mother, Grace Rader of Ellsworth; one brother, David (Marie) Rader of Pennsylvania; one sister, Patricia Riffel of Everett, Washington; along with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Rader.

Soderstrum Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
