Last week, United Way of Story County kicked off our 2017 LIVE UNITED campaign with an annual Day of Caring. The event, which was held after its campaign kickoff breakfast at The Plex, is a community-wide effort to promote volunteerism. Six hundred volunteers from businesses around the county signed up to volunteer on projects that benefitted non-profit organizations. The event is designed to celebrate the spirit of comradery and the value of working together to improve our neighborhoods and community at large.

The mission of United Way of Story County is to be a strategic leader in building countywide partnerships to identify needs and to develop, support and evaluate effective human services, especially in the areas of education, income and health, for our diverse community. We do this because every person in our community has a right to have a good quality of life.

We believe that when we are United Together, we can find solutions that make long-lasting, positive change in the lives of these individuals and families. During our campaign season, our weekly columns will focus the work that UWSC is doing to improve the quality of life and build a stronger community through our 2017 LIVE UNITED campaign theme: United Together, Finding Solutions, Changing Lives.

In September, we will talk about how we are United Together by describing the needs collaborations have identified in their work together, how the money raised during the campaign is invested into programs throughout the county, and the role the UWSC board of directors play in moving us forward in finding the solutions to meet those needs.

UWSC is in the position to bring community members together with partner agencies, subject matter experts, school districts, and other community groups to create lasting community change. We lead the fight for the education, income and health of every person in our community.

Investing in these areas builds a stronger community for everyone. United Way invites you to join the fight. Because your passion, expertise, and resources will help the fight become a win. A win that is not just a short-term contribution, but a long-term solution.
