Thank you to all the great Story City Community Club members who volunteered this past Saturday to make the annual GCC mulch sale and sandbox fill a great success. Community Club volunteers delivered mulch and / or sand throughout Story City to those who had placed orders. This was an incredible opportunity to touch up your yard or play area and to support your community. Mulch sales proceeds benefit the GCC, and the sand sales proceeds benefit the Story City Community Club.
The Antique Carousel opened for its 100th season this past Saturday. Despite the seasonably cool weather, a couple of hundred children and adults rode the carousel this weekend. Sunday featured Cinco de Mayo on Sunday with 5 cent popcorn. We will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Antique Carousel all season long.
Scandinavian Days is right around the corner, June 7th to the 9th. The event brochure will be available in the very near future, so watch for the brochure in your mailbox. In the meantime, check out event information on the GCC website, www.storycity.net. We are expecting another awesome celebration. Scandinavian Days will be in the park and will coincide with the Antique Carousel’s 100th Anniversary. Scandinavian Days is entirely volunteer and sponsor driven. You and your friends can volunteer for as little as an hour. So, be sure to let the GCC or the event committee know if you are interested in assisting with one of the many volunteer opportunities available throughout the event. Thanks in advance for your support.
Judge Story will be presenting "Joseph and the Amazing Techicolor Dream Coat" at the Story City Theater during Scandinavian Days. Judge Story tickets are available at Norsemen Realty, 602 Broad Street, (515) 733-2922. The Story City Theater will also be celebrating its 100th year anniversary in December. Please support the local theater by attending movies each week. A local theater is very rare and is a huge asset to our community. Movie features and time are available in the Story City Herald. You can also sign up for the GCC weekly electronic reminder.
The GCC serves to support businesses and coordinate events for the entire community. The GCC is completely dependent on your support, otherwise known as "partnership," to operate. We encourage everyone to become a partner with the GCC. The GCC is Story City’s central connection to focus the energy of residents to volunteer or contribute to a wide variety of community projects and events including downtown preservation, Antique Carousel operations and Scandinavian Days administration to make Story City a vibrant place to live for young and old. As part of our motto of "Making It All Happen" in Story City, the GCC also periodically collaborates with other community organizations such as the Historical Society to assist their fundraising or the Kiwanis Club to spread their message of supporting Story City’s children’s organizations. Your support is what makes it all happen.
