—by John Hall
Three weeks on the new job and I can already say that I love my new job. My name is John Hall, and I’m the new director of the Story City GCC. I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and spend a short time sharing my philosophy with this new position. I’m a graduate of ISU with a degree in political science and I have spent the last year and a half working political campaigns across the state and country. I’m a born and raised Iowan, originally from a suburb of Des Moines, but I have been in Ames the last 5 years.
I’m wildly excited to begin my work in this community, which in a short time I have grown exceptionally fond of. Folks have welcomed me into my new role as well as anyone could ever hope to be welcomed, and I’m so very thankful for that. Obviously I’m just beginning to get a grasp of what all our office and organization does for the town and folks who live here, and I really am glad that everyone is assisting me in figuring everything out. I would love for anyone to stop by and just chat for a few minutes. I love speaking with folks and I’m always out, going someplace or another so never hesitate to stop me because I would love to meet you.
When I took this job I shared my simple goal of what I wanted to accomplish. I simply want to be able to look back on my time here and know that we created history. With a town as beautiful and rich in history as Story City I can only hope to have a long-lasting positive impact on the town’s history. If after my time as director I can see that I was able to help improve and build onto this town’s wonderful history, then I will have done well. So if anyone shares my passion for this simple goal, I would love to meet you and gain your help with our projects because as we are all well aware, I can’t do it alone.
I very much look forward to meeting and working with everyone in the town during my time as director. I’m excited and passionate about what we do here and what we might be able to do into the future. So please, stop by, say hi, and get to know me because I want to get to know you. Let’s make this partnership fantastic.
