Iowa’s Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds and State Senator Amy Sinclair (R-Allerton) will be among the speakers at the first annual Wendy Jensen Memorial Chili Supper sponsored by the Republican Party Of Story County. The event is set for 5:30 pm on September 30th at the Story City Community Center.

The Lieutenant Governor will be the keynote speaker for the event. The Branstad-Reynolds Administration has focused on an agenda of jobs, investment, and growth, and recently announced a statewide broadband initiative.

The Branstad-Reynolds team has also announced the recruitment of 1,208 county chairs as they prepare to announce their intentions for 2014.

Story County Republicans will also welcome Senator Sinclair, who was belittled on the floor of the Iowa Senate during an education reform debate by fellow Senator Herman Quirmbach (D-Ames) in an incident that drew statewide attention. Both Quirmbach and Iowa Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal apologized to Sinclair in a private meeting.

Quirmbach also made headlines this past session for demanding that House Republicans approve a four percent allowable growth increase in the education budget, then reneging on his offer when Republicans agreed to his terms in exchange for education reform initiatives. Sinclair is a member of the Senate Education Appropriations Subcommittee.

Ames city councilman Jeremy Davis has announced his candidacy for Quirmbach’s Senate seat.

U.S. Senate Candidate Sam Clovis will also address attendees in his first high-profile appearance in Story County.

The honoree, Wendy Jensen, was known as a "super volunteer" for Republican candidates and causes before passing away in December 2011. During the event, a video tribute to Wendy will be featured as well as letters from various high-profile candidates assisted by Jensen through the years. Jensen was a former resident of Story City.

A free will donation will be requested at the door to benefit the Story County GOP. RSVPs are requested by not required; RSVPs can be emailed to Story County Republican Party Chair Dane Nealson at dane.nealson@gmail.com.
