The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team defeated South Hardin 9-0 on Thursday, May 25, as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Zach Magnuson struck out Haley to finish off the game.
The Norsemen grabbed an early lead. R-S scored on a double by Zach Shadlow in the first inning, a single by Derek Staker in the second inning, a single by Colby Gray in the second inning, a single by Shadlow in the second inning, a single by Jakob Pitman in the second inning and a walk in the second inning.
The Norsemen took an early lead in the first inning. With two outs in the first inning Shadlow drove in one run when he doubled.
R-S scored seven runs in the second inning. They scored on a single by Staker, a single by Gray, a single by Shadlow, a single by Pitman and a walk.
One bright spot for South Hardin was a double by Haley in the third inning.
Zach Twedt earned the win for Roland-Story. He went six innings, allowing zero runs, four hits and striking out four. Nederhoff took the loss for South Hardin. He tossed three innings, surrendering one run, one hit, striking out two and walking one.
Spieker started the game for South Hardin. He tossed three innings, allowing eight runs, six hits, and striking out three.
Pitman led Roland-Story with three runs batted in. He went 1-for-4 on the day. Roland-Story Norsemen Varsity was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Stole had the most chances in the field with nine.
Late score costs game against CMB
Roland-Story lost the lead late in a 5-2 defeat to CMB on Friday, May 26. The game was tied at one with Collins-Maxwell-Baxter batting in the top of the sixth when there was an error, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Norsemen tied things up at one. Jake Ford drove in one when he singled in the fourth inning.
Lindemoen earned the win for CMB. He threw five innings, allowing two runs, one hit and striking out nine. Ford took the loss for Roland-Story. He tossed five and a third innings, allowing three runs, three hits, striking out 10 and walking one.
Jakob Pitman, Nathan Bell and Ford each collected one hit to lead the Norsemen.
Kemp led CMB with three hits in four at bats.
Norsemen fall to PCM despite collecting more hits
Even though Roland-Story collected four hits to PCM’s three, they still fell 5-2 on Wednesday, May 24.
Colby Gray, Jakob Pitman, Zach Shadlow and Jake Ford each collected one hit to lead the Norsemen.
Norsemen shut out Clarion-Goldfield/Dows
Roland-Story defeated Clarion-Goldfield/Dows 19-0 on Tuesday, May 23, as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.
Zach Shadlow led the Norsemen to victory by driving in four runs. He went 3-for-5 at the plate. Shadlow drove in runs on a single in the first, a double in the sixth and a single in the seventh.
Roland-Story captured the lead in the first inning. Shadlow singled on a 1-0 count in the first inning, scoring one run.
The Norsemen scored 10 runs in the seventh inning. The team scored on a walk by Caleb Schlatter, a walk by Jake Ford, a single by Nathan Bell, a single by Shadlow, a walk by Colby Gray, a single by Landon Greiner, a walk by Zach Twedt, a groundout by Jayden Macdonald, a single by Jakob Pitman and an error.
A single by Sterner in the third inning was a positive for Clarion-Goldfield/Dows.
Matthew Weaver earned the win for Roland-Story. He threw six innings, surrendering zero runs, two hits, striking out nine, and walking zero. O’Connor took the loss for Clarion-Goldfield/Dows. He pitched five and a third innings, surrendering eight runs, six hits and striking out seven.
Roland-Story collected 13 hits. Greiner, Shadlow, Pitman, Gray and Bell each collected multiple hits for Roland-Story. Pitman, Shadlow and Greiner each managed three hits to lead the Norsemen.
Roland-Story grabs lead in fifth inning for victory over Perry
The Norsemen defeated Perry 4-2 on Monday, May 22, after taking the lead late in the game. Roland-Story was down 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when there was an error, scoring two runs.
Colby Gray earned the win for Roland-Story. He threw one and one-third innings, allowing zero runs, one hit, striking out three, and walking one. Matthew Weaver recorded the last four outs to earn the save for the Norsemen. Garrido took the loss for Perry. He pitched one and one-third innings, allowing one run, two hits, striking out three, and walking one.
Nevitt started the game for Perry. He went four and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs, one hit, and striking out 12. Jake Ford started the game for Roland-Story. He pitched four and a third innings, giving up two runs, two hits and striking out 10.
Zach Shadlow and Zach Twedt each drove in one run to lead Roland-Story.
