Roland-Story defeated Cal 7-3 in a back-and-forth affair on Friday, July 7. The game was tied at three with the Norsemen batting in the bottom of the third when Zach Shadlow doubled, driving in one run.


The Norsemen earned the victory despite allowing Cal to score three runs in the third inning.


Roland-Story took an early lead in the first inning. Jake Ford singled on a 1-1 count in the first inning, scoring one run. Ford had two hits, two RBIs and two runs in the game.


The Norsemen took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Ford doubled, driving in one run and Colby Gray tripled, driving in one run.


Other Norse getting hits were Nick Stole, and Aaron Craig with two hits and two runs.


Vs. Gilbert


The Norsemen and Gilbert passed the lead back-and-forth on Thursday, July 6, but eventually Gilbert prevailed 6-4. The game was tied at four with Gilbert batting in the top of the fourth when Gilbert drove in a run.


Gilbert took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning.


Roland-Story scored four runs in the third inning. The big inning was thanks to a double by Colby Gray, a single by Jake Ford and an error.


Gray and Ford each drove in one run to lead the Norsemen.


Nick Stole had two hits; Dylan Matheason and Landon Greiner each had one.


Vs. Van Meter


Wednesday’s game against Van Meter was a heartbreaker for the Norsemen, as they lost the lead late in a 9-4 defeat. The game was tied at four with Van Meter batting in the bottom of the sixth when Guess drove in one run.


Roland-Story captured the lead in the first inning. Zach Shadlow doubled on a 1-2 count in the first inning, scoring one run.


Van Meter knotted the game up at four in the bottom of the third inning.


Jake Ford went 2-for-4 at the plate as he led the team with two runs batted in. The Norsemen didn’t commit a single error in the field. Will Larson had eight chances in the field, the most on the team.


In the second game of the doubleheader on July 5, Roland-Story stayed in it until the end, but Van Meter pulled away late in a 4-2 victory.


Roland-Story lost despite out-hitting Van Meter nine to eight. Nick Stole, Jake Ford and Colby Gray each had two hits. Zach Shadlow, Landon Greiner and Caleb Schlatter each had one hit.
