The Roland-Story girls’ cross country team placed fourth at the Heart of Iowa Conference cross country meet at the Jewell Country Club on Monday, Oct. 9. North Polk won the meet, followed by Gilbert, PCM, Roland-Story, Nevada, Greene County, South Hamilton and Saydel.

“The girls ran very well at our conference meet this week!” said coach Brad Dedic. “The great effort was capped off by Kylie Tjernagel placing 11th and Kaitlyn Kilstofte at 13th to both earn All-Conference honors for the Norse.”

Theresa Haskin finished third for the Norse and had climbed all the way up to 14th place, but had trouble sustaining the pace.

“She still finished at a very respectable 22:35,” Dedic said. “Grace Teig was fourth and ran her personal best and seems to be peaking at the right time. Emma Auld was fifth with a solid performance.”

Taryn Perry and Natalie Osmundson rounded out the varsity team on a cool and windy afternoon.

“Angela Harestad, Josie Thomas and Ashley Webb were the top three JV finishers, all running season low times, which was impressive considering the windy conditions,” Dedic said.

Allison Wuebker, Maddy Stevenson and Bev Hawley were the next three finishers on the JV team.

Dedic said they are looking forward to the State Qualifying meet a Pella on Thursday, Oct. 19. The girls’ team will run at 3 p.m. The top three teams earn a state berth and individuals can also run at State if they place in the top 15.
