It was a cold and windy track meet in Nevada on Thursday, but Roland-Story’s track teams were happy to finally have a meet that wasn’t cancelled due to weather.
“We were very excited to get outside and compete for the first time this season. Even though the temps were very cold on Thursday it was about the best weather day of the previous few weeks,” said Coach Brian Petersen.
The boys’ team placed fourth at the meet, and the girls’ team came in seventh.
“Overall we were pleased with how the kids competed. The other boys’ teams at the meet competing are all very good and we like to see how we compare with schools of that caliber,” Petersen said. “Coming out of our heavy training month of March we are a bit tired and sore and it showed at times but we certainly got better.
“We got to see some young kids that have a bunch of potential and ran well on the night. Zach Shadlow won the discus by over 20 feet and Nathan Bell placed second in the shot put. Carter Greenfield picked up where he left off last year at the state meet, looking very good getting second in the 800m run. We still have a ways to go but it was a great start to the season.”
