The Roland-Story 9th grade boys’ baseball team finished their season with a record of 7-13-2. The highlight of the year was the winning of the Scandinavian Days J.V. tournament. The Norse were the only 9th grade team in the tournament among eight teams.
Team members and their batting averages were: John Barclay (.359), Sam Mathis (.340), Colten Arnold (.313), Cole Matheason (.303), Alex Teig (.273), Will McGraw (.268), Will Clark (.250), Gunder Howe (.238), Aren Halleland (.200), Josh Sevde (.182), Grant Waline (.160) and Michael Gilligan (.136). Tyler Hovick (.591) played the first half of the season on the freshman team before joining the Varsity squad.
Sam Mathis led the team in hits with 17, including five doubles. He also had 16 RBIs and led the team in slugging percentage at .440. Grant Waline proved very patient at the plate this season, drawing 15 walks out of his 41 plate appearances. Alex Teig scored the most runs with 21, followed by John Barclay with 17. Barclay also had an on-base percentage (OBP) of .490 and a slugging percentage (SLG) of .436.
