The Roland-Story boys had their only meet of the week at the TCI course in Polk City last Tuesday (April 23). Playing on the same course that the Heart of Iowa Conference meet will be held on a week later (April 29), the Norsemen took on South Hamilton, Nevada and North Polk in a quadrangular meet hosted by the Comets. Unfortunately, the Norse didn’t perform up to their usual standards, as they struggled from the outset.

"We ended up getting last place," said a disappointed Coach Tyler Frederiksen. "It was a tough night for my guys. We didn’t play great golf, and couldn’t put together a run of good holes. We’re looking to change that by Monday (April 29) before our conference meet."

Nevada won the four-team meet with a 159 total. South Hamilton was second at 166, followed by North Polk at 182 and the Norsemen at 188.

The Norse had only two of their golfers break the 50 mark, as Evan Johnson led the way with a 42. Cole Birchmier managed a 45, but the rest of the lineup struggled. John Barclay carded a 50, followed by Chase Conis at 51 and Colton Osmundson at 52. Sam Miller rounded out the six-man varsity group with a round of 60.

South Hamilton’s Braxton Risetter was the meet medalist, coming in with a fine round of 36. Zach Hansen of Nevada was runner up medalist with a 37. Dan Ralston of Nevada came in with a 39, as those were the only three golfers to break 40; a fine accomplishment considering the weather conditions were less than ideal.

Each team sported three-member J.V. squads as well, with Tyler Hobbs (53), Jared Twedt (54) and Grant Waline (60) participating for the Norsemen. R-S finished third with a 167 total. Nevada’s J.V. squad edged South Hamilton’s J.V. team 152-153 to take the J.V. crown. North Polk came in with a 189 total.
