Ten boys and girls from Boone, Madrid, Nevada, and Story City, ages 10 to 14, were named District champions of the Knights of Columbus District 27 Free Throw Championship, and have earned the right to compete at the regional level. Iowa Knights of Columbus District 27, with the assistance of Saints Peter & Paul Knights of Columbus Council # 15060 (Gilbert), sponsored the district competition at the Story City Fitness Center. Winners of local free throw contests within District 27 were eligible to participate.

Elie Tuhn (Nevada) was the 10-year-old girls’ champion and Ty Dittmer (Nevada) was the winner of the 10-year-old boys’ division. In the 11-year-old bracket, Tori McDonald (Boone) was the girls’ champion and Benjamin Craven (Boone) was the boys’ champion. Twelve-year-old winners in the girls’ and boys’ divisions were Mady Danner (Boone) and Brandon Rouse (Boone). The 13-year-old girls’ division was won by Jamie Kading (Boone) and the boys’ by Justin Aspengren (Boone). Fourteen-year-old champions were Jenna Clark (Story City) in the girls’ bracket and Bryce Dean (Madrid) in the boys’.

Each contestant attempted 25 free throws in the contests. All ties were settled by successive rounds of five free throws per contestant until a winner emerged.
