Eight boys and girls from the Roland and Story City areas, ages 10 to 14, were named local champions of the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship held in Janaury and earned the right to compete at the district level. Council #15060 in Gilbert sponsored the local competition at the Story City Recreation Center. All youngsters ages 10 to 14 were eligible to participate. Pictured below are all of the participants.

Ajay Twedt was the winner of the 10-year-old boys’ division. In the 11-year-old bracket, Kylie Tjernagel was the girls’ champion and Sam Skaar was the boys’ champion. Twelve-year-old winners in the girls’ and boys’ divisions were Emily Berggren and Wyatt Bunn. The 13-year-old boys’ division was won by Max Halstead. Fourteen-year-old champions were Jenna Clark in the girls’ bracket and Marcus Thomas in the boys’.

Each contestant attempted 15 free throws in the contests. All ties were settled by successive rounds of five free throws per contestant until a winner emerged. Each of these winners competed in the district competition held on February 9th at the Story City Recreation Center, with an eye toward moving on to the state and international levels.
