The Roland-Story girls’ golf team closed out their regular season with three meets last week, which should have helped them prepare for Monday’s (May 13) 3A Regional tournament held at Albia. Two of the three meets last week were held at River Bend in Story City, while the first meet last Monday (May 6) took place at Jewell Golf and Country Club, as the Hawks hosted the Norsemen.
South Hamilton breezed past the Norse 209-237, as Brittany Butler led the home team with a 45. Bridget Concannon and Jesslyn Coghlan led the Norsemen with rounds of 57. Kelsie Crouch shot a 61, and Danielle Retallick posted a 62. Other Norse scores included Cassie Shadlow with a 63 and Lindsey Fisher carded a 72.
The R-S J.V. managed to defeat the Hawks 260-276, with Hailey Arthur leading the way with a 57 for the Norse. Melissa Krakau had a 59, and Molly Fink and Jacey Ellis both came in with 72s.
On Tuesday (May 7) the Norse hosted a quadrangular with North Polk, CMB and Greene County participating. The R-S girls came in second behind winner North Polk (205) with a 224 score. Greene County had a 258 total and CMB brought up the rear with a 270.

Friday’s triangular finished the regular season for Roland-Story, as River Bend in Story City again played host, this time to South Hamilton and Gilbert. In a close match between the Hawks and the Norsemen, the home team almost exacted some revenge on their northern rivals, but fell just three shots short of winning the meet, 229-232. Gilbert was a distant third with a 252 score.
Bridget Concannon led R-S with a 57, followed by Melissa Krakau and Danielle Retallick with 58s. Lindsey Fisher and Jesslyn Coghlan both had 59s. And Cassie Shadlow rounded out the varsity squad with a 63. Jacee Lenz of Gilbert was the meet medalist with a 50, and Brittany Butler was runner up, also with a 50.
The Norsemen finished fifth out of eight teams at the 3A Regional in Albia on Monday. Complete results will be published in next week’s Herald.
