The Roland-Story J.V. girls’ basketball team finished the 2013-14 season recently with an overall record of 13-5 and a 13-3 finish in the Heart of Iowa Conference. The 13 victories set a new school record, and included a record nine game winning steak in the middle of the season as well. The Norse girls were one of the highest scoring J.V. teams ever, scoring 63 points in a win over South Hamilton. They also broke the 50 point mark on four other occasions.

After starting the season 3-2, the Norse girls’ offense kicked into gear, winning nine in a row, before dropping three of their final four games. Those last three losses were to good Gilbert, Nevada and Colo-Nesco teams. Some of the Norsemen’s highlights this season included an impressive win at Gilbert and a big home victory over Nevada. The Norse were a young squad this season, with nine freshmen and one sophomore joining three juniors.

Freshman Krista Mehl led the team in scoring and rebounding. Freshman Elli Jennings led the team in assists. Other regulars in the starting lineup included juniors Bridget Concannon and Alyssa Miller, and freshman Samantha Janvrin. Coming off the bench were junior Hailey Arthur, sophomore Veronika Vorobyeva and freshmen Jade Elliott, Selena Mendoza, Pressly Parker, Dalani Phillips, Megan Sansgaard and Lynette Wuebker.

The Roland-Story J.V. girls were coached by Jason Donohue.
