Registration is now open for the 22nd annual Winter Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project. The majority of sports and events will take place January 24-26 in Dubuque. The Games offer events for individuals of all ages and abilities.
The 2014 Winter Iowa Games will hold competitions in 23 sports, with new sports including Gladiator Games and Winter Bike Race.
Dubuque will host youth basketball, cross country skiing, a fitness walk, youth ice hockey, indoor soccer, martial arts, pickle ball, 5K road race, swimming, table tennis, youth volleyball, wrestling and Zumba(r) on January 24-26.
Cedar Rapids will host adult basketball, dodge ball, figure skating, a fitness walk, adult ice hockey and adult volleyball on February 8-9.
Several other sports will be held throughout January and February in locations across the state. The February 1 schedule includes: alpine ski racing (Dubuque), horseshoes (Eldora), snowshoeing (Cedar Falls), trapshooting (Ackley, Ankeny, DeWitt, Harlan and Peosta) and winter bike race (Waterloo). On February 8, the Games will hold archery in Johnston and a fitness walk in Des Moines. To conclude the Winter Iowa Games on February 22, women’s 6 on 6 basketball will be in Story City and Adaptive Sports Iowa wheelchair basketball will be contested at the University of Iowa.
Over the course of four weekends, the Winter Iowa Games will hold competitions in 15 different communities with over 4,300 athletes.
