Live Healthy Iowa and Live Healthy Iowa Kids work diligently to promote healthy lifestyles to their respective audiences. This year, the organizations challenged youth and adults to work together while learning about nutritious foods and physical activity during the new Healthy Families Challenge. For six weeks, 58 families completed weekly challenges which included trying new foods, exploring wellness resources on the web, engaging in physical activity outdoors and indoors, and much more!
Julie Meseck of Charter Oak commented, "I was able to get my kids to try new fruits and veggies and now they love them! We really enjoyed the encouragement to get out and play more as a family."
For a $25 registration fee per family, participants received a resource kit which included a team packet, activity ball and a 2014 ‘Healthy & Homemade meals’ calendar. Families also received fun weekly educational lessons, a team tracking page and access to healthy recipes and wellness information on Live Healthy Iowa’s website. Families who completed the challenges each week won a $10 Subway gift card. These families were also eligible to win a $100 gift certificate to Honey Creek Resort for a fun family getaway.
