Sons of Norway Kong Sverre Lodge held its October event in Story City with the program “Lefse, Lutefisk and the Importance of Humor” by Gary Legwold, a writer, editor and speaker from Minneapolis, Minn., who also teaches classes on lefse making.

Legwold gave a humorous talk about his new book “Keep On Rolling! Life on the Lefse Trail and Learning to Get a Round,” which he wrote to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his book “The Last Word On Lefse.”

Legwold traveled “The Lefse Trail,” which was 13 lefse-savoring stops in six states to interview lefse makers and also visited lefse-related factories, festivals, museums and churches to assess the “State of the Lefse Union” for his new book.

He invited volunteers from the audience to make lefse during his program and asked them to give their best tips on lefse making. Legwold ended the evening by singing his newly composed song about lefse and tradition “Keep on Rollin’.”

Sons of Norway events are open to all interested in learning more about Scandinavian heritage and culture and guests are always welcome.
