STORY CITY — Roland-Story decimated South Hardin in the second and third quarters en route to a 58-21 non-conference victory Jan. 17 at Story City.


The Norse, rated No. 11 in Class 3A, outscored the Tigers 42-13 over the two middle quarters to improve to 11-4 on the season. Roland-Story led 31-11 at the half and went up by 35 points after three quarters.


A 32-17 rebounding advantage played a big role in Roland-Story’s rout. The Norse also made 10 3-pointers and racked up an impressive 18 steals defensively.


Juliann Clark turned in another fantastic all-around game for Roland-Story in the win. Clark tallied 13 points, six rebounds, six steals and three assists.


ReaganBarkema put up 12 points, three steals and two assists and Madeline Morton and Susie Weaver both netted seven points. Kylie Tjernagel added six points and four steals, Jordyn Ramus also scored six points and MaKayla Geise pulled down six rebounds for the Norse.


South Hardin dropped to 0-14 with the loss. Sarah England scored nine points and Cora Frohwein put up four points, four rebounds and a block for the Tigers.

MONROE — Roland-Story dominated the first half, then fended off a big Prairie City-Monroe rally for a 58-45 victory Jan. 15 at Monroe.


The Norse, ranked No. 11 in Class 3A, were in complete control heading into the locker room at the break. They held the Mustangs to two points in the first quarter, and by halftime they had built a 33-11 cushion.


But PCM put a big scare into Roland-Story in the third quarter. The Mustangs outscored the Norse, 24-6, to pull within four.


Roland-Story regrouped over the final eight minutes. The Norse scored 19 points down the stretch to survive and improve to 10-4 overall and 7-2 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.


Roland-Story made 10 3-pointers and outrebounded PCM, 37-29, to reel off its fourth victory in a row. Freshman Reagan Barkema stepped huge for the Norse, drilling five 3-pointers and finishing with 19 points and seven rebounds.


Madison Martindale also had a big game for Roland-Story with nine points and four steals. Juliann Clark added six points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals and Amy Rathmacher and MaKayla Geise each put up six points and four rebounds.


Jordyn Ramus also netted six points and Susie Weaver had two points, four assists and three steals for the Norse.


PCM fell to 5-10 overall and 3-6 in the conference. Regan Freland delivered 22 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks for the Mustangs.


Emma George added nine points, six rebounds and two assists for the Mustangs. Lilli Baird chipped in nine points and four rebounds.
