The jazz band has qualified for the Iowa Jazz Championships for the 17th consecutive year!


The R-S Jazz Band finished in first place at the SCIBA Jazz Festival for the 10th time in the last 13 years. The festival was held at Winterset on Saturday, Dec. 8.


The Iowa Jazz Band Championships will take place in Ames at Iowa State University on Tuesday, April 2. Roland-Story will be the first band to compete on that day at 8 a.m.


Roland-Story had six students receive outstanding solo awards on the following instruments: Noah Britten - alto sax, Megan Danielson - alto sax, Emily Ruben - tenor sax, Seth Halleland - trumpet, Alayna Ringsby - piano/bass, and Jacob Hennager - guitar.


The jazz band gave two stellar performances in January. R-S competed at the Triton Jazz Festival held at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge for the third time on Jan. 11 and finished in first place out of 11 Class 2A bands.


Solo awards were presented to the following performers: Noah Britten - alto sax, Alayna Ringsby - piano, Alayna Ringsby - bass, and Xander Webb - timbales.


R-S Jazz received a division I rating at the Iowa High School Music Association Jazz Festival held at Marshalltown on Jan. 21. This was the 18th straight year that R-S was awarded a division I rating.


The band had a high score of 49 out of 50 points from one of the judges.
