We have 54 girls in Roland-Story Girl Scouts. Our Service Unit 505 went on an overnight to Camp Sacajawea where the girls made crafts, built a fire, went on a night hike and learned about hygiene. We participated in the Memorial Day Parade and Bethany Manor Service as well as the Scandinavian Day parade where we passed out Girl Scout cookies for the first time. The girls helped with can collection after the beer garden for Scandi Days. We had a Read with a Scout event for children in the community to be read to.
We teamed up with the Ames and Gilbert Service Units to attend a three-day long day camp at Izaak Walton League where the girls learn canoeing, archery, fire building, cooking and other outdoor activities.
We joined our Greater Iowa Council for Zombie Bash at Camp Sacajawea, where we learned survival skills and the Gimme S’more Mud Run.
The third-grade troop donated to the Angel Tree Program for the second year for their community service.
The older troops went on a waterpark adventure to Lost Island Waterpark and will be attending Skyzone in Des Moines.
We look forward to helping plant trees this spring with Trees Forever, attending camp and another year of day camp with Ames/Gilbert.
