With school and sports registrations coming up, you may find yourself in need of a certified copy of your child’s birth certificate. The Story County Recorder’s office can help.

You can obtain certified copies of birth certificates for births that occurred anywhere in the state of Iowa from 1990 to the present at any Iowa county recorder’s office, regardless of county of birth.

To obtain a replacement birth certificate from the Story County Recorder’s office, you must be entitled to the record, meaning you are either the person named on the record or a parent, grandparent, sibling or spouse.

You will need to complete a short application regarding the birth and present a valid, government-issued photo identification.

The cost is $20 per certified copy. The recorder’s office accepts cash, local checks, and debit or credit cards. There is a small convenience fee if you use a card.

For questions or additional information, contact the recorder’s office at (515) 382-7230.
