Ames’ Stephens Auditorium has been named the most amazing university and college buildings in the United States, according to USA Today.
The building was named alongside 51 other university and college buildings throughout the nation.
Stephens was opened in 1969 and celebrated its 50-year anniversary last fall. The building was named after Clifford Y. Stephens, an Iowa State University alumnus, according to the center’s website.
The building’s design is influenced by Japanese theoretical projects and displays uses of contemporary materials and mechanical systems, according to the Iowa State Center website.
Overall, it has features of tall glass windows, strong lines and curved expression. The mix of these design elements makes the building powerful and fluid, the website goes on to say.
