The greater Story City Kiwanis club held its charter dinner on Feb. 15 at the Grace United Methodist Church. Past Kiwanis Governor Jan Burch presented the charter to President Andrew Webb. The meal was provided by the Grace United Methodist Women’s group.


The club was sponsored by the Roland Kiwanis club who were represented by Paul Taig, president. There were representatives from five other Kiwanis clubs present. Bob Mitchell, the Kiwanis District FORMULA chair, presented membership certificates to the charter members. The charter members of the club are: Dr. Dan Binkowski, DDS, Paula Brown, Pastor Jonathan Cooney, Joseph Corrow, Chris Dahl, Tom Klett, Angela Kowalke, Shalin Kowalke, Brandi Nelson, Lauris Olson, Robert Parker, Story City Meat Locker, Andrew Webb, Marjorie Webb and Beckey Witthun. Geri Derner, the Lt. Governor for Division 11, inducted the officers: Andrew Webb, president; Paula Brown, president elect; Shalin Kowalke, secretary; and Angela Kowalke, treasurer.


Webb reported that the club has completed two projects this year, Christmas Mittens and the Spaghetti feed which raised $650 for the Roland-Story Elementary School Library. The group’s next project was to be a pancake dinner for the kick off night for the Roland Youth Sports the end of March.


The club meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at noon at Dinners by Dawn. All those interested in learning more about Kiwanis are invited to come to a meeting or you can contact Andy Webb at webbahmj1@aol.com.
