Trials are scheduled for three men Ames police say stabbed a man while trying to rob him on Grand Avenue last month.

Tyrrell R. Scheuermann, 22, of Story City, was charged with first-degree robbery. Gustaf R. Carlson, 45, of Ames, was charged with second-degree robbery and first-degree harassment, and Jason R. Darland, 22, of Slater, was charged with second-degree robbery.

All three defendants pleaded not guilty to charges last week and a trial was scheduled for June 18 at Story County District Court in Nevada.

Since the arrests, Darland has posted bond and was released from the Story County Jail. Carlson is being held in jail on $27,000 bond and Scheuermann is being held on $50,000 bond.

Police officers were called to the 1100 block of Grand Avenue just before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, on a report of a fight in progress. When they arrived, officers couldn’t find anyone who had been involved in a fight.

A short time later, officers were called to the hospital because a man was being treated there for a stab wound. The man was brought there in a private vehicle, police said. The victim has been identified as a 43-year-old man from Ellsworth. He was released from the hospital a few days after the incident.

Police said the victim ran from the 1100 block of Grand Avenue after being confronted and was picked up by his girlfriend in a car, near Bandshell Park.

According to police, when the victim got into his girlfriend’s car, Scheuermann jumped into the car and stabbed the victim in the abdomen before fleeing the scene.
