EMS Week BBQ
The Story City First Responders invite the public to their 13th annual EMS Week BBQ on Tuesday, May 21, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Story City Fire Station. National Emergency Medical Services Week is May 19-25. Please join the local EMS personnel for a pork sandwich meal provided by the Story County Iowa Pork Producers. Free-will donations will be accepted, with proceeds going directly toward equipment and training. Life Flight will be landing at the intersection of Broad Street and Park Avenue.
‘Children of Eden’
Tickets for Judge Story Theater Troupe’s summer production of “Children of Eden” are on sale now. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased in person at ACT Insurance, located at 603 Broad St., Story City, during business hours. Tickets can also be purchased on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling the JSTT ticket line at (515) 291-3318.
Antiques Iowa: Celebrating 15 years
Antiques Iowa is celebrating its 15 year anniversary with sales from Friday, May 17, through Sunday, May 20. There will be treats and door prizes and vintage in the yard, weather permitting. The antique mall is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is located at 1639 Broad St., Story City.
Community Shred Day
Reliance State Bank is hosting a free Community Shred Day on Saturday, May 18, from 9 to 11 a.m. The community is invited to bring personal sensitive documents to be shredded on-site. Shredding paper is a secure way to help prevent identity theft. Items that cannot be shredded include newspapers, boxes and binder.
Taco Night is Wednesday, May 15, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Story City American Legion Post 59. Your choice of hard-shell or soft-shell tacos are $1.50 each, or walking tacos are $2.
On Monday, May 20, from 5 to 9 p.m., the Legion will be serving its weekly special of tenderloin, chicken strips, breaded chicken sandwich, fish sandwich or shrimp poppers. Call or visit the Legion Hall at 301 Washington St., Story City, to find out which of the items listed with be served. The meals include french fries and the cost is $6.
On Friday, May 24, from 8 p.m. to midnight, enjoy karaoke with DJ Jessica.
The Danny Grause Band will play on Friday, May 17, from 8 to 11 p.m. at G.I. Jill’s, 207 N. Main St., Roland. No cover charge.
On Saturday, May 18, from 8 p.m. to midnight, there will be karaoke. Free to watch and/or participate.
On Monday, May 20, play Bargo games beginning at 6:30 p.m. Free games.
Stitch ‘n’ Knit
Stitch ‘n’ Knit meets at Bertha Bartlett Public Library at 10 a.m. every Friday. If you knit, crochet or stitch anything by hand, come enjoy an hour of fellowship with other crafters. Remember to bring a project to keep your hands busy.
At 1 p.m. on Friday, May 17, at the Story City Community Center, people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.
On Wednesday, May 22, a Fellowship luncheon will be at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. The delicious meals are catered by Story City Market’s deli. A monthly menu and contact information can be picked up at the center. Bring your own table service or buy supplies for 25 cents. The event offers great food, fellowship and bingo. Reservations can be made by calling Ruby Olson at (515) 733-9278.
The box-office smash “Avengers: Endgame” will be shown Friday, Saturday, Sunday, May 17, 18, 19, at the Story Theater in Story City. Shows are evenings at 7 p.m., with special Saturday and Sunday matinees also at 3:30 p.m. Admission is only $4 and it’s rated PG-13. For more information, call (515) 733-4551. Come and join the Story City Antique Carousel to kick of the 2019 Carousel Season on Friday, May 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. Be the first to ride your favorite Carousel animal and enter to win a season pass to the Carousel.
Rich Olive golf tourney
The Rich Olive Memorial Golf Tournament will be held June 15 at River Bend Golf Course, with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. or 1 p.m. The tournament is an 18-hole, four-person best shot, with an entry fee of $50 per person, which includes lunch and golf. Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to both the Bliss Cancer Center and River Bend.
Bethany Life golf classic
