PRAIRIE CITY — The Roland-Story baseball team got hit hard early and couldn’t recuperate in a 12-1 loss to Prairie City-Monroe in six innings Friday.
The Norsemen gave up seven runs in the first inning. They could only get four hits off PCM pitcher Derek Brown, scoring just one run in the top of the fourth to fall to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
Zach Magnuson hit a solo home run to account for the Roland-Story run. Nick Stole was 2-for-3 and Nolan Faber 1-for-3 for the Norsemen.
Faber took the loss after giving up eight runs — just one earned — on 10 hits with one strikeout and no walks in four innings. Aaron Seydell allowed three earned runs on two hits and two walks in 1 ⅔ innings.
Brown struck out six and walked two, going all six innings to get the win. He also homered and drove in four runs and Preston Vay Wyk was 4-for-4 with a triple, three runs and an RBI for the Mustangs.

STATE CENTER — Roland-Story couldn’t do enough to slow down West Marshall in a doubleheader June 6 as the Norsemen were swept by scores of 11-5 and 14-9.
Roland-Story started slow in each game. West Marshall jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opener and a 5-0 advantage in the nightcap.
In the first game Roland-Story had five hits. Jayden Macdonald was 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs, Nick Stole went 2-for-3 with a run and Nolan Faber and Zach Magnuson each singled and scored.
Jayden Macdonald was the losing pitcher after giving up seven earned runs on seven hits and two walks in three innings. Jon Sansgaard allowed one earned run on four hits with a strikeout and three walks in two innings and Ajay Twedt gave up one run on two hits with a strikeout in one inning.
Brayden Evertsen, Gabe Jones and Kaden Davis each homered for West Marshall. Eversten and Davis both drove in two runs and Jones scored three times.
Jones was also the winning pitcher, surrendering three earned runs on five hits and three walks with eight strikeouts in 6 ⅓ innings.
In the nightcap, Roland-Story put up nine runs despite picking up only four hits. Magnuson doubled twice, scored a run and picked up a pair of RBIs; Faber was 1-for-3 with two walks, one run and an RBI and Zach Twedt singled and scored.
Aaron Seydell also walked three times and scored twice and Stole picked up one run and RBI apiece.
Alex Berends took the loss in the second game after allowing four earned runs, one hit and walk apiece. Magnuson gave up five earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts in three innings and Ajay Twedt surrendered two earned runs on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in three innings.
Kinnick Christensen was 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs and Davis drove in three runs for West Marshall in the second game. Brody Halter was the winning pitcher, giving up four runs with four strikeouts and walks apiece in 4 ⅓ innings.

STORY CITY — Roland-Story held on for one win in a home doubleheader with Greene County June 5 at Norsemen Field.
Roland-Story won the first game by a 6-5 score. The Norsemen jumped out to a 5-1 lead and withstood a three-run Ram seventh for the victory.
Ajay Twedt, Nick Stole, Nolan Faber and Jayden Macdonald all had two hits in the victory. Twedt also scored two runs; Stole crossed the plate once; Faber doubled, drove in a run and scored twice and Macdonald picked up one run and RBI apiece.
Aaron Seydell also doubled, walked and knocked in a pair of runs for the Norsemen.
Steven Berends went all seven innings to get the win. He gave up five unearned runs on seven hits, overcoming four team errors, and striking out six with just two walks.
David Richter gave up five runs on three hits with one strikeout and walk apiece in 1 ⅓ innings as the losing Greene County pitcher. Brent Riley was 2-for-2 with a run and Carter Morton 1-for-3 with two runs for the Rams on offense.
In the second game Roland-Story fell behind 4-2, then gave up four runs in the fifth and three in the seventh. The Norsemen had seven hits, but they gave up eight and were again plagued by defensive miscues — finishing with five errors.
Macdonald was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Stole doubled and scored, Faber singled and scored, Sansgaard went 2-for-3 and Seydell singled in the loss. Zach Twedt was the losing pitcher, giving up six runs — only two earned — on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk in four innings.
Austin Delp struck out nine and gave up one earned run on six hits and a walk in five innings as the winning Ram pitcher in the nightcap. Nick Breon went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three runs and four RBIs at the plate for Greene County.
Roland-Story concluded the two games with a 6-1 overall record and 1-1 Heart of Iowa Conference mark.

STORY CITY — Roland-Story made the most of its opportunities in a 10-4 victory over Ankeny Christian Academy June 3.
The Norsemen put up double-digit runs despite coming up with just five hits. They drew 10 walks and had five steals as a team.
Roland-Story jumped out to an 8-0 lead through four innings, then coasted to victory. Nolan Faber was the winning pitcher, surrendering two earned runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts and just one walk in five innings.
Jayden McDonald allowed two runs on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in two innings of relief for the Norsemen.
Aaron Seydell doubled, walked and scored and Jon Sansgaard was 1-for-3 with a run, walk and RBI apiece for Roland-Story on offense. Steven Berends and Ajay Twedt both singled once and scored twice and Nick Stole finished 1-for-3 with one run, walk and RBI apiece.
Jack Whittmore allowed five runs — four earned — on two hits and four walks with one strikeout in ⅔ of an inning as the losing ACA pitcher. Ben McDermott was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Eagles at the plate.
