Thanksgiving Food Drive

First State Bank and Town & Country Insurance are holding a food drive during the month of November to benefit those in need this holiday season. Non-perishable food items can be dropped off locally at 609 Broad St. in Story City.

Bertha Bartlett Public Library

The following events will be held at the Bertha Bartlett Public Library, 503 Broad St. in Story City.

Knit Pickers — Fridays at 10 a.m. — An open group for knitters and stitchers of all ages.

Preschool Storytime — Fridays at 10:30 a.m. for kids ages 0 to 6 years. — Enjoy stories, songs, fingerplays and crafts. Parents, grandparents and caregivers are welcome.

Book sale

The Bertha Bartlett Public Library Foundation is having a BYOB Book Sale now through the end of November. The sale room area is currently full of DVDs, books on audio cassettes, VHS movies and books of every genre. The sale is $5 for all the items one can fit in a box. Proceeds from the sale support the projects and programs of the Bertha Bartlett Public Library in Story City.

Mobile Food Pantry

The Food Bank of Iowa Mobile Food Pantry is coming to Jewell on Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. If you would like extra food for you/your family, please stop in. Please note change of date — not Thursday because of Thanksgiving. The location is Bethesda Lutheran Church, 439 Main St., Jewell. Please bring your own boxes/bags.

G.I. Jill’s

G.I. Jill’s, 207 N. Main St. in Roland, is having line dancing on Friday, Nov. 22, from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Nov. 27, come out and listen to Kane Starrett Acoustic from 7 to 10 p.m.

Come to Jill’s for Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, Nov. 28, at 5 p.m.

‘I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change’

The Ames Community Theater (ACTORS) is presenting the production of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” at 120 Abraham Drive in Ames. There are several people from Judge Story Theatrical Troupe who are involved with the production. Tickets are available at Alpha Copies, 3615 Lincoln Way in Ames, and online at The show will be on Friday, Nov. 22; and Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m.

Play cards

At 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, at the Story City Community Center, people age 55 and over are invited to play bridge club and/or the card game “Hand and Foot.” No reservations or charge required, but a snack to share is appreciated.

Fellowship luncheon

On Wednesday, Nov. 27, a Fellowship luncheon will be at 11 a.m. at the Story City Community Center. The cost is $4 per person age 55 and over. The delicious meals are catered by Story City Market’s deli. A monthly menu and contact information can be picked up at the center. Bring your own table service or buy supplies for 25 cents. The event offers great food, fellowship and bingo. Reservations can be made by calling 515-290-9774.

Story Theater

Walt Disney’s “Frozen 2” will be shown Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 22, 23, 24, at the Story Theater in Story City. Shows are evenings at 7 p.m., with special Saturday and Sunday matinees also at 4:30 p.m. Admission is only $5 and it’s rated PG. For more information, call 515-733-4551 or 515-733-4319. Cookie Walk

On Dec. 7, St. Petri Lutheran Church, 804 Grand Ave. in Story City, holds its annual Holiday Cookie Walk from 9 a.m. to noon. Cookies, candies, jar gift mixes and crafts will be available.
