Fern Lillian (Sampson) Anderson

Zumbrota - Fern Lillian (Sampson) Anderson, age 96, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021 in Zumbrota, MN.

Fern was born on April 10th, 1925 to Cornelius Christopher and Inger (Ose) Sampson. Fern was a graduate of Radcliffe, IA and got a teacher certificate to teach school.

She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Zion Lutheran Church in Rural Radcliffe, IA. She was married to Arnold LaVern Anderson on November 1st, 1944. They lived in Roland, Ames, and Story City during their 60 years of marriage and the last 10 years she lived in Minnesota.

Fern and Arnold wintered in Texas for 20 years where they enjoyed activities and met new friends. As a 4-H leader for 10 years she encouraged children to excel in projects for county fair. Fern wrote a memoir of her life and those she loved.

Fern was a wife, homemaker, Avon representative, and proud mother of two children, Craig Anderson and Joan (Anderson) Schuler. She was a member of the Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland, IA. She was active in choir, triple trio, and ladies' groups. She also enjoyed Bridge clubs and other card games with her children and grandchildren and socialized with many friends.

Fern was survived by her devoted daughter, Joan Schuler; granddaughters, Sarah and husband Tom Tangen and their four children Jacklyn, Lillian, Chelsea, and Martin from Zumbrota, MN, Rachel and husband John Price and their child Gianna from Brooklyn Park, MN and grandson Grant Schuler of Zumbrota, MN; her sister Lois Biddle from Elkton, MD; as well as many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold and son Craig, brothers Donald, Carroll, Ernest and Leonard Sampson and sisters Maurine Wegner and Esther Hanson.
