Eldon E. Hoeper

Story City - Eldon E. Hoeper, age 86, of Story City, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Households of Bethany in Story City.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Gilbert Lutheran Church 135 School Street, Gilbert, Iowa. Friends may call from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Soderstrum Funeral Home, 618 Lafayette Avenue, Story City, Iowa. Burial with military honors will be in the South Saint Petri Cemetery, rural Gilbert.

Born on May 19, 1935 in Plainfield, Iowa, Eldon was the son of Elmer and Eldora (Geweke) Hoeper. Eldon attended country school through the 8th grade. Following his schooling, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Eldon was united in marriage Mardell Elsamiller on July 28, 1963 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sumner.

Eldon was an over-the-road truck driver. He retired as a truck driver from Continental Bakery in Waterloo. Eldon and Mardell moved to an acreage near Story City to be near their daughter, Kim as she attended Iowa State University.

He enjoyed working on old tractors and classic cars. Eldon could be found working around the house and spending time outside. He took great pride in his yard. Eldon enjoyed their two dogs and feeding the cats. He also loved to play cards with his family. Eldon was a member of Gilbert Lutheran Church.

Eldon is survived by his daughter, Kim (Geoff) O' Banion of Polk City; son, David Hoeper of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren: Brittany, Brady, and Beau O' Banion; and a brother, Eugene (Ramona) Hoeper of Dodge City, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mardell in 2019; grandson, Brant O' Banion; and sisters, Geraldine Hoeper and Karen Wheeler.
