HUXLEY - The Roland-Story boys’ track team won seven events, coasting to the Class B team championship at the Ballard Classic boys’ track meet April 16 in Huxley.

The Norsemen picked up their second team title in as many days after winning at Hampton-Dumont the night before. Roland-Story scored 206 points at Huxley to beat South Hamilton by 46 points for first out of five teams in Class B.

Grant Olson, Nathan Bell, Wyatt Bunn and Nick Wakefield won individual events for Roland-Story at the meet.

Olson took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.83 seconds. Bell won the discus with a throw of 135 feet, two inches and he took second in the shot put with a toss of 46-7.75.

Bunn was victorious in the 200 after crossing the finish line :23.96. Wakefield earned gold in the 1,600 after completing the race in 4:42.26.

Sam Diehl was second in the high jump with a jump of 6-0 and Blake Lebeck won silver in the 3,200 after running an 11:51.53. Nathan Limas was third in the two-mile with an 11:53.57 effort.

Eli Thorson was runner-up in the 100 with a time of :11.40 and Zach Twedt placed fourth in :11.40.

Carter Greenfield won silver and Seth Halleland bronze in the 800 with respective times of 2:08.87 and 2:24.71. In the 400 hurdles, Tristan Balmer was third in 1:04.75 and Matthew Phelan fifth in 1:06.82.

Quinn Olson took third in the 200 and sixth in the 400 with respective times of :25.79 and :58.35. Diehl was third and Ethan Taylor fourth in the 110 high hurdles with respective times of :15.97 and :16.51.

Nic Hansen came in fourth in the discus with a throw of 100-3 and Jayden Macdonald fifth in the shot with a 39-4.75 effort. Bunn jumped 17-7 in the long jump to win bronze and Caleb Markwardt was fourth with a 17-0.25 showing.

Dylan Kahl jumped 5-2 in the high jump to place sixth.

Roland-Story won three relay races.

Taylor, Balmer, T.J. Hocraffer and Diehl won the shuttle hurdle in 1:04.87 and Kyle Selby, Bunn, Drake Day and Twedt took first in the 4 X 200 with a 1:34.93 showing. Selby, Jon Sansgaard, Thorson and Eric Dowe were victorious in the sprint medley after running a 1:43.29.

The Norsemen 4 X 800 team of Wakefield, Grant Olson, Gradyn Dowling and Greenfield placed second in 8:31.29. Sansgaard, Markwardt, Mason Thomas and Dowe were runner-up in the distance medley after finishing in 4:11.48.

Selby, Day, Thorson and Twedt won silver in the 4 X 100 with a time of :45.45. Sansgaard, Dowling, Taylor and Dowe were runner-up in the 4 X 400 after clocking in at 3:48.26.

Final Class B team standings: 1. Roland-Story 206, 2. South Hamilton 160, 3. Collins-Maxwell 93, 4. Greene County 58, 5. North Polk 37.

HAMPTON - Roland-Story won eight events en route to winning the team championship by a comfortable margin at the Bulldog Relays April 15 in Hampton.

The Norsemen won four individual and relay events apiece, scoring 165 points. Aplington-Parkersburg scored 124 points to edge Denver (123) and Hampton-Dumont (121) for second in the eight-team field.

Drake Day, Zach Twedt, Nick Wakefield and Sam Diehl were the four Roland-Story athletes to win an individual gold medal.

Day and teammate Eli Thorson were first and second in the 100-meter dash with respective times of 12.02 and 12.20 seconds. Twedt won the 200 in :24.16, edging the :24.34 by Hampton-Dumont’s Mugabe Worjloh for first.

Wakefield won the 3,200 in 10:19:48. He defeated Newman Catholic’s Stephen Ringo by 18.37 seconds for the win.

Diehl took first in the high jump with an impressive jump of six feet, 4.5 inches. Diehl beat Aplington-Parkersburg’s Junior Bodden by 2.5 inches for the victory.

Nathan Limas and Nathan Bell joined Thorson in earning an individual silver medal for the Norsemen.

Limas was second in the 1,600 with a time of 5:23.56. Garner-Hayfield/Ventura’s Nathan Larson won in 5:13.70.

Bell came in second in discus with a throw of 128-3. Denver’s Brock Farley won the event with a toss of 134 feet even.

Bell also won bronze in the shot put with a throw of 44-11. Farley was first with a 48-2.5 effort and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows’ Ryan Watne was runner-up with a 45-10.5 effort.

In relays, Roland-Story emerged victorious in the 4 X 100, 4 X 200, 4 X 800 and sprint medley.

Kyle Selby, Day, Thorson and Twedt won the 4 X 100 in :45.45. Aplington-Parkersburg took second in :46.44.

Day, Diehl, Twedt and Grant Olson took the 4 X 200 with a 1:35.03 showing. Belmond-Klemme was a distant second with a time of 1:38.48.

Gradyn Dowling, Eric Dowe, Mason Thomas and Carter Greenfield came out on top in the 4 X 800 after finishing in 8:46.21. The Norse team decisively beat Newman Catholic’s runner-up time of 9:19.00.

Thorson, Wyatt Bunn, Adam McIlrath and Olson clocked in at 1:39.91 in the sprint medley. The Norse team topped Denver’s 1:41.70 for the gold.

Roland-Story’s 4 X 400 team of Olson, Dowling, Wakefield and Greenfield came in second with a time of 3:39.17. Hampton-Dumont won the event in 3:38.82.
