The Roland-Story girls’ track team won three silver medals and placed seventh as a team at the Norsemen Relays April 18 in Story City.


Dana Vinson came in second in the shot put, Rachel Patton in the high jump and Kaitlyn Kilstofte in the 3,000-meter run for Roland-Story. The Norse scored 65 points to beat out Lake Mills, Belmond-Klemme and South Hardin for seventh and come in just 4.5 points behind Prairie City-Monroe’s sixth-place point total.


Vinson’s best throw in the shot was 34 feet, nine inches. South Hardin’s Brylee Zeisness won the event with an impressive throw of 46-5.


Patton peaked with a jump of 4-10. Gilbert’s Haleigh Hadley won the high jump after jumping 5-1.


Jadyn Nelson ended up seventh in the high jump for the Norse with a jump of 4-6.


Kilstofte clocked in at 12 minutes, 15.54 seconds in the 3,000 to beat Norwalk’s Emily Bellizzi by over 32 seconds for the silver medal. Ballard’s Ellie Twedt easily won the race with a time of 11:25.86.


Reece Johnson placed fourth in the 1,500 and sixth in the 400 for Roland-Story with respective times of 5:29.79 and 2:40.44. Nevada’s Kacie Rewerts won the 1,500 in 5:02.50 and North Polk’s Lucy Schaffer took first in the 800 with 2:33.87 showing.


Juliann Clark came in eighth in the 800 for Roland-Story with a 2:41.63 showing. Maddie Morton placed eighth in the 100 with a time of :14.28.


Ava Charlson finished fifth in the 400 hurdles and seventh in the 100 hurdles with respective times of 1:16.57 and :17.90. She also tied for sixth in the long jump with a jump of 13-11.5.


Madison Geise took sixth and Madison Martindale eighth in the discus for Roland-Story with respective throws of 87-2 and 84-7. Macy Friest was seventh in the shot with a throw of 30-4.


Roland-Story’s 4 X 200 relay team of Taryn Johnston, Morton, Clark and Anne Wilgenbusch finished fourth in 1:57.02. That same team tied Belmond-Klemme for seventh in the 4 X 100 with a time of :56.64.


Cora Twedt, Courtney Wuebker, Grace Froelich and Patton ended up sixth in the shuttle hurdle with a 1:30.14 effort.


Jillian Lykins, Geise, Reagan Schmitz and Angela Harestad took seventh in the 4 X 400 with a time of 5:01.12. Morgan Blythe, Baylie Janssen, Bekah Strobl and Harestad also took seventh in the 4 X 800 with a 12:32.01 showing.


Jadyn Nelson, Lykins, Schmitz and Blythe ran a 5:24.14 in the distance medley to place eighth. Froelich, Anna Peach, Reagan Vogelaar and Johnson ran a ninth-place time of 2:10.11 in the sprint medley.


Gilbert won the team championship with 121 points. North Polk was second with a score of 112.

GILBERT — Roland-Story won two silver medals and placed fourth as a team in Class A at the Bengal Relays April 15 in Gilbert.


Rachel Patton won an individual silver medal in the high jump and Roland-Story’s 4 X 200-meter relay team of Taryn Johnston, Maddie Morton, Juliann Clark and Kylie Tjernagel also took second. The Norse ended up with 85 points to finish just two points behind Forest City’s third-place score in the eight-team Class A field.


Patton jumped five feet, one inch. She fell just one inch short of the winning jump of 5-2 by friendly rival Haleigh Hadley of Gilbert.


Johnston, Morton, Clark and Tjernagel clocked in at one minute, 54.93 second in the 4 X 200. Gilbert won the race in :151.07.


Clark also placed third individually in the 800 and Tjernagel won bronze in the 100.


Clark completed the 800 in 2:35.97. Iowa Falls-Alden’s Grace Juhl won in 2:26.12 and Gilbert’s Cara Heuer was second in 2:34.06.


Tjernagel clocked in at :14.46 in the 100. Webster City’s Zoey Woodle and Ashlyn Hay were first and second with respective times of :14.16 and :14.33.


Johnston placed fourth in the 100 for Roland-Story with a time of :14.61. Baylie Janssen was sixth in the 800 after crossing the finish line in 2:45.82.


Reece Johnson came in fourth in the 1,500 with a time of 5:28.02 and Kaitlyn Kilstofte was fourth in the 3,000 after completing the race in 5:28.02.


Ava Charlson gave Roland-Story a sixth-place time of :18.07 in the 100 hurdles.


Dana Vinson was fourth and Macy Friest sixth in the shot put with respective throws of 35-7.5 and 31-11. Madison Geise took fourth in the discus with a throw of 94-6.


Roland-Story’s distance medley relay team of Anna Peach, Reagan Vogelaar, Charlson and Johnson took fourth in 4:53.78. Johnston, Morton, Clark and Tjernagel finished fifth in the 4 X 100 with a :54.68 showing and Anne Wilgenbusch, Peach, Vogelaar and Reagan Barkema were sixth in the sprint medley with a time of 2:13.52.


Iowa Falls-Alden and Gilbert dominated the team scoring in Class A. Iowa Falls-Alden won with 156 points and Gilbert was second with 137.
