STORY CITY — The Roland-Story boys’ basketball team found its stride at the right time to knock off Greene County Friday, 52-46.


The Norsemen trailed 36-35 heading into the fourth quarter. They outscored the Rams 17-10 down the stretch to improve to 10-6 on the season and 6-4 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.


Rebounding was again a strength for Roland-Story against Greene County. The Norse pulled down 40 rebounds, including 15 offensive boards.


The Norse overcame a 32-percent shooting night from the field. They had 11 steals defensively.


Dylan Ihle hit five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points and four steals for Roland-Story. Adam McIlrath had 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and steals apiece and a block and Luke Patton seven points.


Zach Twedt chipped in five points and eight rebounds, Wyatt Bunn three points and four boards and Nolan Faber two points, four steals and three assists.

STORY CITY — Roland-Story couldn’t get it going until it was too late in a 47-36 loss to North Polk Jan. 30.


The Norse were coming off a big 63-55 home win over rival Gilbert just two nights earlier. They came out flat against North Polk, scoring only 10 points in the first half and 18 over the first three quarters.


Roland-Story fell behind by 15 points after three quarters. They finally started clicking in the fourth quarter with 18 points, but they could only make up a small amount of ground in falling to 9-6 on the season and 5-4 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.


The Norsemen had 11 offensive rebounds and shot 50 percent from inside the 3-point arc for the game. But they only made 2 of 15 3-pointers and 2 of 7 free throws and also finished with just two steals on defense.


Adam McIlrath posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds for Roland-Story in a losing effort. He also had one assist and one block.


Sam Skaar had five points, five rebounds and three assists for the Norsemen. Dylan Ihle, Wyatt Bunn and Zach Twedt each scored four points, with Ihle also recording three rebounds and two steals.


Nic Hansen added two points and three rebounds and Caleb Markwardt also scored two points for Roland-Story.

STORY CITY — A dominant first half helped Roland-Story upset Gilbert, 63-55, for its most impressive victory of the season Jan. 28.


The Norsemen outscored the Tigers 32-15 in the first half. Gilbert pulled within eight after three quarters, but Roland-Story didn’t let Gilbert get any close by the time the final buzzer sounded in improving to 9-5 overall and 5-3 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.


The victory avenged a lopsided 78-48 loss to Gilbert earlier in the season.


In the first meeting between the two teams Roland-Story shot 34 percent from the field, gave up 13 3-pointers and got outrebounded, 39-34. In the rematch the Norse shot 56 percent, held the Tigers to 4 of 25 shooting from 3-point range and posted a 38-31 rebounding advantage.


Dylan Ihle hit 4 of 6 3-pointers and scored a game-high 19 points for Roland-Story in the win on Jan. 28. Adam McIlrath posted a double-double with 11 points and rebounds apiece and he added three assists and three blocks.


Sam Skaar hit two 3-pointers and ended up with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Nolan Faber put up nine points, four rebounds and two assists, Zach Twedt eight points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks and Nic Hansen four points.


Gilbert fell to 9-4 overall and 5-2 in the conference. Jack Dresser had 13 points, three assists and three steals, Matt Ockey nine points, Easton Johnson eight points and 10 rebounds and Jacob Papesh seven points and six boards for the Tigers.
