A ‘Night of Comedy’ coming to the Story Theater

—by Todd Thorson

Do you want to enjoy a night full of laughs? About familiar topics you can relate to? Then you need to check out the Baby Boomer Comedy Show that is coming to the Story Theater Grand Opera House in Story City, Iowa on Thursday, November 13 at 7 p.m. This hilarious 90-minute theater event will feature fellow baby boomers and veteran comedians Jan McInnis and Kent Rader, as they touch on topics we all have to deal with on a regular basis…family, kids, work, DIY projects, dieting and growing old. And they’ll do all that with clean humor that’s been a hit at thousands of performances across the country.

Jan and Kent have a combined 30 years experience performing for theaters, corporations, groups, fund raisers and conventions throughout the United States.

Jan was featured in the Wall Street Journal as one of the top convention comedians whose act is clean, and in the Washington Post in a challenge from Gene Weingarten to write clean punch lines to his suggestive set ups. She has performed everywhere from the Barns@Wolf Trap to the Mayor Clinic and the American Bankers Association, Pep Boys, John Deere, Anthem Blue Cross and the Federal Reserve in Atlanta.

For comedienne and professional speaker Jan McInnis, life is full of “finding the funny”. She - and the audiences who continually rate her programs “hilarious” - wouldn’t have it any other way. Inspired by 15 years as a marketing director in the 9 to 5 world, Jan has cornered the association and corporate convention market, as well as live theater audiences all over the country. Over the past 14-plus years Jan has been on a full-time speaking circuit. Born in Washington, D.C., Jan was in charge of the “Joke of the Day” for her junior high school lunch table. Not surprisingly, she majored in communications at Virginia Tech, where she was a disc jockey for the local radio station.

Kent won the 2007 Branson Comedy Festival, and has been performing his clean comedy to packed theater and convention crowds across the country. He’s a former hospital CEO with a sense of humor. Kent has helped people and associations learn and experience how laughter matters in reducing stress and building quality organizations. In fact, he has the title of “cleanest comedian” for a reason - attend the show and you’ll find out why!

Kent graduated from William Jewell College in Liberty, MO with a B.S. in Accounting. He spent five years in public accounting and years as CFO and CEO of various hospitals before becoming a professional speaker in 1997. Kent has authored the stress reduction book titled “Let it Go, Just Let It Go” released in April 2002 and is featured in 450 Country Inn and Suites Hotels’ Read It and Return program. Kent has been heard on NPR’s Talk of the Nation and Sirius XM Satellite Radio. Kent also performs clean, stand up comedy in comedy clubs from New York City to Seattle, WA.
