Registration now open for Business of Art Conference to be held March 1 and 2

The Ames Community Arts Council and the Octagon Center for the Arts are pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Business of Art conference to be held at the Octagon Center for the Arts on Friday, March 1 from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday, March 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Intended for visual artists at all stages of their career, this event will offer insight into numerous topics including online and gallery sales, art festivals and entrepreneurship, as well as artist self-care and career development. In addition to the professional development sessions, the conference will include networking opportunities throughout the day, giving participants the chance to talk one-on-one with the speakers, other professionals, and each other.

Registration for the two-day conference is $75 for professional artists and $50 for students, plus meals. A limited number of scholarships are available for students willing to volunteer to assist with the event. Full conference details and registration information can be found online at

In addition to several other local and regional presenters, the conference is proud to host conference keynote speaker, Jeremy Caniglia. Jeremy is a graduate of Iowa State University and is currently based in Omaha, Nebraska. His artwork has been featured in many media outlets including the Washington Post and CNN. He has done artwork for magazine, book, and CD covers, along with publishing his own art books. He has also worked with Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, and other fantasy and horror authors, and in 2004, he won the International Horror Guild Award for best artist in dark fantasy.

The Business of Art conference is being hosted by the Ames Community Arts Council and the Octagon Center for the Arts. The project is the supported in part by the City of Ames Commission on the Arts (COTA).
