Mainstream Living to host voter education event

On Saturday, October 18th, Mainstream Living will host “Count Yourself In”, a voter education event for people with disabilities. The event will take place at Oakwood Road Church (2400 Oakwood Road) from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and will include a welcome from Ames Mayor Ann Campbell and presentations covering topics such as voter rights, civic engagement, and comparing candidates. Presenters include Rik Shannon of the Iowa Developmental Disabilities Council, State Representative Lisa Heddens, and Dianne Bystrom, Director of the Catt Center for Women and Politics. The event will conclude with a lunch where attendees will have an opportunity to network with Story County elected officials and candidates for office.
