R-S FFA celebrates American Education Week
The Roland-Story Agriculture Education classes and FFA organization celebrated ‘American Education Week’ recently by having student-members participate in two separate activities the beginning of the week.
The first activity was having students with an interest in Veterinary Medicine job shadow at Heartland Veterinary Clinic in Story City and the second was to teach all of Mr. Gilroy’s fourth graders about the concept of extracting DNA from a strawberry.
According to Brad Taylor, RS Agriculture Instructor, “these first two activities were a great experience for our students – both high school and elementary. The students who participated in the job shadow had a positive experience in learning firsthand what is involved in that profession. The students involved with the DNA extraction activity got the opportunity to demonstrate their public speaking skills as well as demonstrate their knowledge of science learned in their Agriculture classes while working with the fourth graders.”
