Chairman Brett Barker announced recently that the Story County Republicans are partnering with the Story County Freedom Flight to host the third annual Story County Freedom Run. Among the planned participants is Iowa Auditor Mary Mosiman. The event will take place on Saturday, April 23 at Story County Medical Center’s south campus in Nevada, IA. Included in the day’s events are a 5k race, a one-mile walk, and a children’s fun run. A pancake breakfast will be hosted concurrently with the event as well. All money raised will be directly contributed to the Story County Freedom Flight.

“For the last two years, the Freedom Run 5k has been a successful effort to help send veterans to visit their memorials in our nation’s capital,” said Chairman Barker. “I am thankful to Auditor Mary Mosiman for agreeing to participate once again in a great cause that will raise funds to help with projects benefitting our local American heroes.”

Story County Freedom Flight has honored Story County veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm for their sacrifices by sending them to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials from their respective wars. The organization is in its fifth year of operation, and was awarded the Governor’s Volunteer Recognition Award by Governor Terry Branstad in 2013 for their efforts. Though no further flights are currently planned, they continue to support projects that directly benefit local veterans.
