Story City Carousel to host movie night, superhero day
Story City’s antique carousel will be the location for two fun events at North Park next weekend.
At 9 p.m. on Friday, there will be a free showing of the movie “Norm of the North,” sponsored by the Story City Greater Chamber Connection and Comfort Inn.
“There’s just something fun about watching a movie outside,” said Abby Huff, executive director of Story City GCC.
Huff explained that a movie screen will be put on the fencing of the tennis courts in the park, right next to the carousel.
“People should bring blankets and chairs so they’ll be comfortable during the movie,” Huff said.
There’s no charge for the movie, but a free-will donation to support the carousel will be appreciated, according to Huff. There will also be snow-cones and popcorn available for a donation.
The antique carousel will operate until the movie begins, with rides costing $1 each. The antique carousel was built in 1913 and was restored in the early 1980s. The carousel has calliope music and colorful hand-carved wooden figures to ride on: 20 horses, two chickens, two pigs, two dogs, two chariots and a whirling tub.
From 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, little superheroes are invited to the carousel for a party.
“We’ll have fun games for the kids, crafts and activities,” Huff said.
This is the second party the GCC has held at the carousel this summer.
“We’re asking kids to come dressed in their favorite superhero outfit,” Huff said. The party is $5 per child or $15 per family.
