It’s that time of year again! The leaves are turning and Halloween will soon be here. The response to the downtown Trick or Treat Night has been phenomenal and continues to grow each year. This event brings lots of families to the downtown area. The blocks surrounding downtown (Broad Street from Park Avenue to Elm Avenue and South Penn Avenue) will be blocked off just like last year. Bethany Manor will also host their Trick or Treat Night that same evening, offering hot dogs and an open house in their main dining room from 6 to 7 p.m.

This year the GCC is adding a friendly pumpkin decorating contest. All businesses and organizations are encouraged to enter one decorated pumpkin. The judges will be our Trick or Treaters who will cast their votes for their favorite pumpkin. Winners will have dessert delivered to them the following day.

If you wish to compete in the contest, bring your pumpkin to the GCC office by 4 p.m. on October 30. Each participant will have a sign to display at their location. To participate please email, call or stop in at the GCC office by Friday, October 24. For questions or more information please contact the GCC office at 733-4214 or

The Story City GCC and the downtown businesses look forward to celebrating with you and your family on Thursday, October 30, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., one day earlier than the traditional Halloween date of October 31.
