R-S Color Guard places first at state competition

On Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, the R:oland-Story Color Guard competed at the Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association competition held at Hy-Vee Hall and Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The two-day event is the largest of its kind in the United States and consists of 528 high school routines involving 275 high schools from across the state of Iowa.

The R-S Color Guard competed in the Class I Color Guard Division and placed first with a score of 265.5. Out of the three divisions of the Color Guard competition, Roland-Story had the overall high score.

Members of the Roland-Story Color Guard are: Seniors Eden DeWald, Lauren Himan, Erin Power, Hope Sievers and Emily Seydell; Junior Melody Stokke; Sophomores Jade Elliott, Elli Jennings and Natalie Tryon; and Freshmen Anika DeWald and Kari Stephens. Their manager is Jesslyn Coghlan.

The Roland-Story Color Guard is under the direction of instructor Jennifer Masemann and Band Director Kevin Masemann.
