Honored with tree planting by the Iowa Arboretum

On June 18, 2016, the late Allan Beck of Story City was honored by the Iowa Arboretum in Madrid, Iowa, with a Persian (also known as Carpathian or English) Walnut tree planting in his name. Nadine Beck (Allan’s widow) of Story City along with her five children and 10 of her grandchildren received the honorarium for Allan. Dr. Paul Domoto (retired ISU Horticulture Professor) spoke to the many who attended and reported that Allan started a Carpathian walnut selection project when he worked at ISU many years ago. Ultimately, Dr. Domoto finished the project, which resulted in the patented Persian Walnut that was planted that day in Allan’s honor.
