The 12th Annual GCC Progressive Dinner will be held Wednesday, August 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Story City. The event, which is organized by the Story City Greater Chamber Connection and Merchants Promotions Committee, is held each year to promote the local business community, and to welcome guests and patrons to the two-block downtown business district.

Very successful in years past, the businesses that choose to participate in the Progressive Dinner sign up in advance to provide a specific one course appetizer, soup or side, entree or dessert item. Attendees then purchase their tickets, which are available at the GCC office for $10 for adults, $5 for ages 11-18 and free for 10 and under, and stroll from business to business sampling each of the various food and dessert items.

This year’s theme, “Pass the Torch”, is tied into the Summer Olympics, and businesses participating are encouraged to offer food items from around the world, Rio or just something popular from here in the United States. Outdoor games will also be provided, including Corn Hole and giant Jenga.

“This is my first year of the Progressive Dinner,” said Abby Huff, GCC Executive Director. “I had never heard of the event until moving to Story City, so I am excited to not only see Story City come together for a fun night, but also getting the chance to bring our amazing businesses both small and large together for one night.”

Over 20 businesses have currently signed up to take part, including Century 21 Signature Real Estate, Story City Floral and Garden, Alley’s Pizza, Romsey A:rt and Gifts, Town and Country Insurance, State Farm Insurance, NuCara Pharmacy, GNB Bank, Huffer, Coleman, Ward, P.L.C., Bethany Life, True Value/Infinite Home Creations, Reliance State Bank, Norsemen Realty/ACT Insurance, The Tin Chandelier, Story City GCC/Red Granite Farm, Upper Story Studio, PDG Printing, Impressions, Kaffe Geita/Harvest E-Free Church, EBY/Gookin Ford/HPC Salon/Peterson Floors, Van Wall/Guys With Grills and Lekwa Heating & Cooling.

Heading up the Merchants Promotions Committee this year is Jocee Lowe. Other committee members include Roy Watson, Karen Furness, Sara Coats and Erika Kuroski.
