Additional 61 COVID-19 cases reported in Story County

An additional 61 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Story County, the state's coronavirus website reported at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

At that time, the website showed 6,912 individuals in Story County had tested positive for the virus — up from Tuesday's total of 6,851. 

A total of 22 people with COVID-19 in Story County have died, according to the state. 

COVID-19 is the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus.

Of the Story County residents who have tested positive, 4,480 have recovered, the state reported. Story County's 14-day average positivity rate is 10.3%, the state reported Wednesday, down from Tuesday's positivity rate of 11%.

To date, a total of 41,914 Story County residents have been tested for the virus.

At 10 a.m. Wednesday, the state was reporting 2,449 COVID-19-related deaths statewide, an increase of 22 deaths since the state's tally at 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the state's coronavirus.iowa.gov website.

The state was reporting at 10 a.m. Wednesday 233,866 confirmed cases of coronavirus, an increase of 2,964 since 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Iowa had 1,162 people hospitalized by the virus Tuesday, down from 1,172 on Monday.

The total number of people tested is 1,222,572, according to the state. Of the people who have tested positive, 142,249 have recovered.

The Ames Tribune uses data from the Iowa Department of Public Health to report daily totals of Iowans and Story County residents tested for the coronavirus and those who have tested positive for the virus each day. Since the pandemic began in spring, the state has made changes and corrections to how it reports that data and the data does not always agree with numbers reported from other sources.
