A local story about the reunion of a father and daughter after 40 years apart has caught the attention of NBC's "Today" show.

An article about Cande Coulter's emotional reconnection with her father, Dan Bowers, was published in the Ames Tribune and Story City Herald last week.

The article "gained the attention of the Today show. Particularly Today with Hoda & Jenna," Coulter wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.

A producer called Simply Mae's Cafe, one of Coulter's Story City businesses, last week inquiring about the article and asked if she and her dad would consider sharing their story.

"After much consideration and heart to heart talks, dad and I said YES! Then it became a whirlwind of finding pictures and items requested by the producers," Coulter posted. "Thanks to Becky (Bowers' wife) for finding pictures at home while dad is on the road and my husband for sweating profusely while I dug through storage totes to find what I needed."

On Monday, Coulter and Bowers had an interview via Zoom.

"In true fashion, we did it from our camper," Coulter said.

The segment is set to air Friday during Hoda & Jenna, which runs from 10-11 a.m. on NBC.

Coulter noted that she was wearing clothing from her store, Simply Mae's Boutique, and Simply C's earrings, which are locally made.

"We’ll see if all the info we shared about our great town makes it in the interview," she said.
