Health officials reported 12 new cases of COVID-19 in Story County over a 24-hour period, the day after the county’s fourth death was announced.

As of 10 a.m. on Friday, 411 of the 835 Story County residents who have tested positive for the virus have fully recovered, while four individuals have died as a result of COVID-19.

Since the first county resident was tested for the virus, a total of 9,227 county residents have been tested for COVID-19 and have tested positive at a 9% rate, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health’s coronavirus website.

Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames has nine patients admitted to its facility due to COVID-19, which is slightly lower than the hospital’s peak number in June when the hospital saw 14 patients, said Steve Sullivan, a spokesperson for Mary Greeley and Story County Public Health.

Sullivan also confirmed the 12 additional cases on Friday.

Since the virus began spreading throughout Iowa, more than 33,700 individuals have tested positive for the virus, which has resulted in the death of 742 Iowans.

Throughout the state, more than 361,300 individuals have been tested for the virus, and at least 100,000 of those tests have occurred through TestIowa, according to Iowa’s coronavirus website.
