It’s time to place your orders in for the annual Mulch Madness and Sandbox Fill event. Community volunteers will deliver your mulch and / or sand on Saturday, May 4. Please call the GCC with your orders. Due to changes in our mulch supplier, we will only be taking pre-orders for mulch this year (no day of sales). This is an incredible opportunity to touch up your yard or play area and support your community. Mulch proceeds benefit the GCC, and sand proceeds benefit the Story City Community Club.
Spring is the time of new beginnings. New beginnings are never more evident than the seasonal opening of the Antique Carousel on Saturday, May 4th. We will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Antique Carousel all season long. The Carousel is largely operated by volunteers such as you. It is impossible to thank volunteers enough for all of the vital work that they do to help our community; however, I never stop trying. Thanks again to the GCC and Story City Historical Society volunteers that made the April 12th Story City Wine and Beer event a success. The incredible variety of wines was enjoyed by a capacity crowd at the VF Outlet Mall. Volunteers were vital to planning, set up and cleaning up, both the evening of the event and for a number of hours the following Saturday morning. We look forward to partnering with the Story City Historical Society for years to come.
Be on the lookout for Scandinavian Days information. I am completing the brochure as you are reading this article. Scandinavian Days is right around the corner, June 7th to the 9th. Your support through sponsorships and volunteering are vital for the success of all of Story City’s events, but most importantly to Scandinavian Days. This event is entirely volunteer and sponsor driven. The event committee has been hard at work for several months organizing the event. However, we always need volunteers throughout the event. We have many opportunities that may only require an hour, such as selling tickets or providing information. You can arrange to sit with a friend. So, please call the GCC if you and your family are interested in helping for a day or an hour. Much more information will be available in the weeks and days to come. Thanks in advance for your support.
The GCC is completely dependent on your support, otherwise known as “partnership,” to operate. We encourage everyone to become a partner with the GCC. The GCC is Story City’s central connection to focus the energy of residents to volunteer or contribute to a wide variety of community projects and events including downtown preservation, Antique Carousel operations and Scandinavian Days administration to make Story City a vibrant place to live for young and old. As part of our motto of “Making It All Happen” in Story City, the GCC also periodically collaborates with other community organizations such as the Historical Society to assist their fundraising or the Kiwanis Club to spread their message of supporting Story City’s children’s organizations. Your support is what makes it all happen.
