R-S PTO field trip funding in jeopardy

Staff Writer
Story City Herald

Dear Roland-Story Parents:

In 2011 we added three fundraisers to cover the costs of the K-8 field trips. The Fall/Spring Can Recycling Day, Craft Fair, and Cy’s Locker Room have helped the PTO cover an additional $8,000 that we have budgeted to pay for these trips, without taking away from the funds we give back to the schools.

With new changes to the Cy’s Locker Room contract for 2014 we need to provide 6 volunteers for all 7 of the Iowa State home football games. We cannot make this happen without your help. If we are unable to get the 42 volunteers we need, we will have to back out of this fundraising opportunity. Our first year we raised $3,400. That number has now grown. In 2013 we received a check for $5,753.85.

Without these funds the PTO will not be able to fully support the field trips for the Elementary and Middle School.

Saturday, Aug. 30: North Dakota State Bison, Jack Trice Stadium, 11 a.m.

Saturday, Sept. 6: Kansas State Wildcasts, Jack Trice Stadium, 11 a.m.

Saturday, Sept. 27: Baylor Bears, Jack Trice Stadium, TBA

Saturday, Oct. 11: Toledo Rockets (HC), Jack Trice Stadium, 2:30 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 1: Oklahoma Sooners, Jack Trice Stadium, TBA

Saturday, Nov. 22: Texas Tech Red Raiders, Jack Trice Stadium, TBA

Saturday, Nov. 29: West Virginia Mountaineers, Jack Trice Stadium, TBA

These are the 7 home games we need to fill. Please contact Jennifer Holdredge at 515-733-9615 or 515-708-1251 or email at jholdred@iastate.edu before August 21 to sign up. If we do not have the necessary numbers we will have to end our involvement with Cy’s Lock Room.

We cannot make this happen without your support.

Thank-you!
