Lauris Olson of Ames has announced her candidacy as a Democrat for the Story County Board of Supervisors. She is seeking the seat vacated by Wayne Clinton. A journalist by trade, Olson owns Iowa News Online, which formerly published Ames365.com, AmesNewsOnline.com and the Ames Bulletin Board. She currently is developing a website focused on human-animal relationships in Iowa.

Olson has also reported on Story County government for the past 10 years and has been a reporter, editor and radio news director in Alaska, Wisconsin and other newspapers in Iowa. Olson currently serves on a League of Women Voters of Iowa committee that studies the use of TIF financing in the state, the executive board of Community and Family Resources and the Youth & Shelter Services Public Policy Board.

Olson ran unsuccssful campaigns for supervisor in 2012 and again in 2014. Originally an independent, she changed her political affiliation in January to a Democratic standing.

Olson will run against the other Democratic candidate Reno Berg in the June 7 primary. Scott Schaben is also running for the supervisor seat as a Republican. The general election will follow in November.
